Tangerine Bouquet
I recently completed a self study course from Mark Carder on still life oil painting. I really enjoyed the concepts in realism which I don't often strive for. I enjoy loose impressionism both in my art and in the art of others. But, the Carder method does provide great mixing and drawing technqiues. Here is my painting using this method in oil.

Happy Holidays
This was an experiment that seemed to work. I took simple gatorboard and used pumice mixed with gesso and make a ground with swirls...fun! it was a bit like finger painting. I let it dry and then sketched the ornaments and painted with pastels. The rough background really make it interesting. So, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The Peach Jacket
This is a 12 x 14 inch painting of a little girl in a peach jacket. I spotted her at the Coon Dog Festival which is held annually in Saluda, NC. She was so interested in a puppy playing on the ground. She is painted in casein on watercolor board.

Casein - Boats in Harbor
The Masters often used paint called Casein which is a milk based paint. I happened to come across some in an art store and thought how much fun it would be to try it. This is a small painting, 6 x 6 inches, done on masonite. Casein has a lovely matte finish. After it dried, I applied the recommended varnish which did not disturb the calm finish. I will definitely order more and try this on a bigger painting.
